Image
How to Add Years to Your Pet's Life By Lorie Huston, DVM    Anyone who has ever had a dog or cat wishes just one thing — that he or she has a healthy and long life. Here are five tips that can help your pet do just that. 1. Feed a high quality diet. Pets fed a high quality diet have a shiny hair coat, healthy skin, and bright eyes. A good diet can help strengthen your pet’s immune system, help maintain his or her intestinal health, help increase his or her mental acuity, help keep joints and muscles healthy, and much more. 2. Keep your pet lean. Pets that are overweight are at risk for a myriad of health issues. Obesity is the number one nutritional disease seen in pets currently and studies have shown that being overweight or obese can shorten a dog or cat’s life span by as much as two years. Why? Being overweight or obese puts your pet at risk for joint disease, heart disease and diabetes, among other things. 3. Take your pet to the veterinarian regularly. All pets, including b

Do you want to learn some dog grooming tips? Yes, it is possible for you to groom your dog without having to take them to your  vet clinic . In this article, we will share some of the best grooming tips everyone should know. Dogs are called man’s best friend for a reason. They are fun to be with, sensitive, sympathetic, loyal friend, faithful and even protective. 6 Dog Grooming Tips for Beginners #1: Bath Your Dog This is without saying that you need to bathe your dog. Some people erroneously think that because they are animals they don’t need bathing. Well, they do because they get dirty just like we do and they need to be cleaned just like we do. Dogs, however, don’t need bathing as often as we do so you can get away with once in one or two months. 10 Heartwarming Ways to Show Your Dog You Love Them

Image
  1. One word: snuggles Most dogs, like 99.99 percent out there, love to snuggle. We all get so busy with work, kids, chores, house projects, etc. that it can be easy to forget that our furballs would love nothing more than to snuggle up in our laps. So even if it’s only for 15 minutes a day, take the time to nuzzle up with your pup and get a little extra bonding in. 2. Make playtime a priority Again, we’re all so darn busy and tired these days that when our pups are running around with boundless energy, it can seem like a nuisance. I know I’ve had days where it’s like, geez dog, can’t you just chill out and let me be? 3. Teach them a new trick When you first get a dog, training is top of mind. But then as time goes on, it’s easy to become complacent. Heck, Toby used to be a pro at rolling over when he was younger, but when we tell him to do that now, he gives us a befuddled look. If you’re looking to spend more quality time with your dog, teaching them a new trick is a fabulous idea.

What are steroids? Corticosteroids  (commonly referred to as  steroids  or  cortisone ) are a class of steroid hormones that are naturally produced in the adrenal glands. Corticosteroids are involved in a wide range activities in the body, including the stress response, immune system response, control of inflammation, nutrient metabolism, and maintenance of blood electrolyte levels. The adrenal glands produce two forms of corticosteroids: Glucocorticoids  such as  cortisol.  These control carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism and reduce inflammation through several different mechanisms. Mineralocorticoids  such as  aldosterone.  These control electrolyte and total body water levels, primarily by causing sodium retention in the kidneys. Why are corticosteroids prescribed?
